Costs Guide

So how much are you looking at to get up and running on your first bike? We’ve put together a simple cost guide to give you a rough idea of the training and motorcycle gear costs.

Training:

  • CBT – £100 to £150 including bike hire
  • Theory test – £31.00
  • Direct Access Course – £600 to £1200
  • Practical test module 1 – £15.50
  • Practical test module 2 – £75 (£88.50 on Saturdays and evenings)

Other costs:

Once you have completed all the necessary training, you’ll need to get yourself a bike or scooter. It goes without saying that this could range from tens to thousands of pounds! It all depends on your budget and needs but if you’re keeping costs down you should be able to pick up a decent second hand 125cc for around £200.

You’ll then need to get kitted out with some motorcycle clothing. A helmet can range £50 to £500 but we recommend you always purchase a new helmet so you can be sure your safety is not compromised. Allow around £100 for a motorcycle jacket, £50 for boots and £30 for gloves. Consider buying your clothing second hand if your budget is tight.

Other additional costs include insurance, road tax, MOT, fuel and maintenance costs so be sure to budget for these too.
