It may seem like a simple concept but being able to change gear properly can totally transform your entire riding experience.

Yes, simple it may seem so why then do so few riders do it correctly? The answer is because they learned BAD HABITS early on in their riding careers that have stayed with them and become ingrained in their psyche.

For each up shift to a higher gear, take up the slack in the clutch lever and gently preload the foot shifter with your toes before shifting. At the point you have the slack taken up in both controls; shift and you’ll find that everything feels much less clunky.

It may sound straightforward – obvious even – but many people forget and so it can pay to ingrain this technique by repeating it time and time again during your motorcycle training. That way you will then carry it with you forever.
